Have you purchased your first shotgun, or have you inherited a relatives’ shotgun? Or do you just want to get in a review of this firearm and get in the work behind the trigger. Regardless of your reasons, this class will cover shotgun fundamentals of firearms safety, terminology, operation/handling of the shotgun, stance, basic marksmanship, reloading and then a series of drills to build on the basics as noted. Class will cover the following:

- Safety review, four cardinal firearms safety rules and CCGCI range rules.

- Medical; location and explanation of kits (boo-boo kit, trauma kit) and protocols if an accident occurs.

- Dry fire drills to go over manipulation of the shotgun as well as loading/reloading (all dry) then - Going hot on the range, starting at 10 yards from target (s), drills from low ready to include:

1. Standard response: controlled pair and hammered pair to COM

2. Non-standard response: three or more shots (usually 3, 4 or 5) to COM

3. Failure to stop; two shots Com then transition to head, wait a moment and third shot to the head.

- More drills can be taught depending on student’s comfort level and round count.

Class requirements are as follows (FIREARMS MUST BE UNLOADED AND IN A CASE PRIOR TO COMING INTO THE CLASS):

· A pump or semi-auto shotgun, 12 gauge or 20 gauge, equipped with iron sights (bead, open or ghost ring) or a red dot, and minimum 3-round magazine tube. Shotguns with a detachable box magazine are discouraged for use in this class. Any size choke is acceptable.

· Shotguns MUST have a stock (NO SHOCKWAVE OR SIMILAR SHOTGUN PLATFORM). A shotgun with only a pistol grip is not acceptable. Shotguns with folding or wire stocks are strongly discouraged.

· A shell carrier on the shotgun, and/or method of carrying shells on your belt.

· Minimum of 10 factory-loaded 00 buckshot shells, and 5 slugs. NOTE – THIS IS A MINIMUM, MORE AMMUNITION CAN BE BROUGHT TO THE CLASS

· Eye glasses / Protective eye wear (prescription glasses are acceptable)

· Ear protection

· Closed-toed, supportive shoes

· Closed-collar shirt or scarf (to prevent hot brass from going down your shirt)

· Note taking material and pen

· Water bottle / drinks

Length of Class: 3 Hours

Estimated Round Count: 15 shells of 00 buck, 10 slug, and 25 birdshot
